World Hunger and Poverty Group Look at all the research I did -Maddy World Hunger by Maddy Farina Everyone has a right to eat. Most people do not eat everyday because they cannot afford it. The most recent reason is because of the Japan March 16, 2011 Earthquake people have lost their homes and their bank accounts and their banks! How are you going to have a bank account but you don’t have a bank! There has been a dramatic increase in hunger in the United States in the last three years, 2008, 2009 and 2010.Circumstances are only available for 2008. US knowledge does not measure hunger; they measure food insecurity and security.
If you do not eat and drink everyday it is unhealthy. Facts: In Asia, Africa and Latin America over 500 million people are living in what the World Banks calls” absolute poverty” Facts: Each year 15 million kids die of hunger. Facts: 3 billion people in the world today struggle to survive on US$2/day. Facts: About 183 million children weigh less than they should for their age. Facts: Every 3.6 seconds someone dies of hunger. Facts:The Indian subcontinent houses almost half of the world’s hungry people. Facts:More than 10 million children in Africa orphaned because they are not the weight they are supposed to be. Facts: Less than1 percent of what the world spends each year on weapons could have every child eating everyday. Facts:Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes. That's one child every five seconds. Facts:In 2008, nearly 9 million children died before they approached their fifth birthday. Facts: 923 million people across the world are starving. Facts: It is estimated that some 800 million people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition, about 100 times as many as those actually die from hunger. Facts: 1/3 of the world is fed while the rest is starving. Facts:One out of every eight children under the age of twelve in the U.S. goes to bed hungry every night. Facts:90% of the world’s hungry live with chronic hunger, a nagging hunger that does not go away. Facts:Every year since 1945, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has been celebrating 16th October as World Food day.
Facts: Research shows that preschool and school-aged children who experience severe hunger have higher levels of chronic illness, anxiety and depression, and behavior problems than children with no hunger. Facts: Most people don’t die because they’re starving; they die because they’re not healthy. Some kids only get one drink of water everyday and I bet that water is not even clean. Facts: 3 causes of hunger are: Political Conditions, Economic Conditions, and Environmental Conditions. Facts: 17 million American children go to bed hungry!
